Detroit Pistons
The Pistons have been the dominant team in the central division since 2002 winning six titles in eight years, four of which came from 2005/08. For all the dominance they have shown, their NBA Championship in 2004 came in the year in which they failed to win their division. The Pistons also won championships in 1989 and 1990 against Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. In 2008 the team went through a semi rebuilding stage when they signed Allen Iverson from Denver in exchange for Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess. The move was widely criticised as a one that wouldn’t work and would upset the balance and harmony of the team. These fears were realised when Billups and his new team, Denver, went on to play in the western conference finals. In the 2009 off season the team signed Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva to multiyear deals in response to losing Rasheed Wallace and Allen Iverson to free agency.
